Broadcaster and naturalist Chris Packham has backed our campaign, Paws for a Cause.
Mr Packham, one of the UK’s most recognisable wildlife presenters, said the bond between people and dogs is one of the most profound partnerships in nature.
He said: “Humans and dogs have co-evolved for around 33 thousand years and without dogs we would not have become successful in many of the ways we take for granted today.
“We are indebted to our canine friends for this evolutionary advantage and the more contemporary ways that they continue to enhance and improve our lives.”
Best known for presenting Springwatch, Autumnwatch and Winterwatch on the BBC, Mr Packham has spent more than 40 years campaigning for animal welfare and biodiversity protection.
He added: “We should all pause for thought to celebrate the critical support which dogs provide for disabled people, both physically and mentally.
“I wouldn’t want to live without my poodles, Sid and Nancy, but many people simply cannot live without their assistance dogs by their sides. These remarkable animals help people realise the better quality of life that they fully deserve.”

Chris received his autism diagnosis in his forties and has recently talked about how this helped explain the feelings of isolation and depression he suffered as a young man.
The 360Wire‑backed campaign aims to raise £1,000 for 10 autistic children to meet a support dog, secure 15 sponsors for autism assistance dog Peggy, and have 10 people register interest as puppy socialisers.
