New electric vehicle chargers installed across Sheffield

A new round of on-street vehicle chargers is installed across the city so that residents without driveways or private parking will find it easier to switch to electric vehicles.

11 new electric vehicle (EV) chargers have been added at nine locations, at least one in each of Sheffield’s Local Committee areas, as part of Sheffield City Council’s drive to expand public charging infrastructure.

Councillor Ben Miskell, Chair of the Council’s Transport, Regeneration and Climate Policy Committee, said: “We are determined to ensure electric vehicles are accessible to everyone.

“With these new on-street chargers, another barrier has been removed.”

The installations were funded by the Council with support from the Government’s Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV), bringing the total network to 90 charge points citywide and complementing hundreds of privately operated chargers that are already in place.

The new sites include Bishopsholme Road in Fir Vale, Slate Street in Lowfield, Balmoral Road in Woodhouse, Louth Road in Greystones, Flodden Street in Crookes and Upwood Road in Hillisborough.

Additional chargers have also been fitted in car parks on Station Road in Darnall, Hope Street in Stocksbridge and Freedom Road in Walkley.

The Council says the expanded charging network is part of a wider strategy to cut air pollution, reduce carbon emissions and make Sheffield a “cleaner, greener and more enjoyable” place to live and work.

Plans for another round of EV charger installations are already in motion, and new locations will be announced in the coming months.
