Professor Keith Jackson, the newly appointed Master Cutler, has announced Weston Park Cancer Charity as his chosen charity for the year, in support of their latest ‘See it. Treat it’ appeal.
Professor Jackson, who was appointed as Master Cutler in early October, acts as an ambassador for South Yorkshire’s business community, he selected the charity due to his ties to the healthcare sector and personal experiences of cancer within his family.
The charities ‘See it. Treat it’ appeal aims to raise £1.85 million to fund a groundbreaking MRI simulator for the Weston Park Cancer Centre, which can significantly improve the accuracy of radiotherapy delivery by allowing more precise targeting of cancer cells.

Professor Jackson said: “Cancer touches so many lives, mine included, and I’ve seen both through my family and professional life how vital timely, accurate diagnosis is.
“The work Weston Park Cancer Charity does to support patients and their families is extraordinary, and the new MRI simulator will be a game-changer for cancer patients across our region.”
Professor Jackson is the CEO of two leading medical product companies, while his wife, Dr Gina Jackson was a GP who witnessed “first-hand the impact a cancer diagnosis can have on individuals and families, as well as the vital role of supportive care.”
He added: “I’m looking forward to working closely with the Weston Park Cancer Charity team to launch my ‘Master Cutler’s Challenge’ early next year, which will see businesses across the region get stuck in to support the appeal.”
The challenge sees companies, organisations and individuals given £50, with the idea of growing that amount with all proceeds going to the chosen charity.
With recent studies showing one in two people will develop cancer at some point in their lifetimes, Weston Park Cancer Charity offers free support, therapy and advice for those living with the illness.
Last week, the charity was recognised at the Sheffield Business Awards, winning both the Community Impact and People’s Choice Awards.
As part of the announcement the Master Cutler urged businesses, community groups, and individuals across the region to support the appeal through fundraising, sponsorship and events throughout the year, saying “every donation large or small brings us one step closer to transforming cancer care in our region.”
