‘Urgent repairs’ to fix the astroturf pitch which houses semi-professional side Scarborough Athletic FC will begin in January 2026
Scarborough Sports Village, known as the Flamingo Land Stadium for sponsorship reasons, features one 3G astroturf pitch which is the home of Scarborough Athletic FC and Scarborough Ladies FC. The pitch was scheduled to be relaid earlier this year, but ‘structural issues’ postponed the work and left the pitch unplayable for the 2025/26 season.
A series of technical reviews have now been completed, and groundwork on the pitch will begin in January 2026.
Announcing the news, North Yorkshire Council’s executive member for leisure, Councillor Simon Myers, said: “I hope this development comes as welcome news for all users of the pitch, including Scarborough Athletic and Scarborough Ladies, their members, supporters and the wider football community.
“Our commitment is not only to ensure that the pitch is repaired to an excellent standard, but also that it is completed as swiftly as possible to minimise the impact on everyone affected.”
Due to the pitch being unavailable, Scarborough Athletic having been playing their home fixtures at Bridlington Town’s ground during the 2025/26 season.
The temporary ground share agreement was approved earlier this year by the National League and the Northern Premier League.
It is hoped that the repairs will fix the pitch in time for next season.
