More than £100,000 worth of cannabis has been seized after information from residents led police to a major drugs operation in Barnsley.

Officers from the Barnsley North Neighbouring Policing Team (NPT) carried out a warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act on Wednesday, 22 October, at a property in the Barugh Green area following intelligence provided by the community.

Inside one of the buildings, officers uncovered a large-scale cannabis grow and a quantity of dried cannabis bud from a recent crop, with an estimated street value of £100,000.

They also recovered around £50,000 in cash, two samurai swords, and several mobile phones believed to be linked to drug supply.

A 53-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the production of cannabis and possession with intent to supply.

Both have since been bailed, awaiting further enquiries.

PC Ashton Smith from Barnsley North NPT said: “Drug activity of this kind not only funds criminal lifestyles but also brings harm and disruption to our local communities. By working together and sharing information, we can continue to make Barnsley a safer place for everyone.”
