Humberside Fire Service warns parents ahead of Halloween
28 October 2025

Warnings to parents are issued ahead of Halloween that ‘without care it can quickly turn risky’.

According to the Humberside Fire Service, Children are four times more likely to be involved in a fatal road accident on Halloween night over any other night of the year.

The service is advising parents to make or buy costumes from light-coloured material, avoid plastic and synthetic fabrics that can easily catch fire, and attach reflective tape to the front and back of the costumes to enhance visibility for drivers.

For children, the advice is to watch out for candles near doorsteps, visit the homes of friends, family, and neighbours, rather than strangers, avoid visiting elderly or vulnerable people, and if your costume catches fire: stop, drop and roll.

Drivers on Halloween night are urged to take extra precaution as people may be walking close to the road in small groups, wearing dark clothing which could be harder to spot.
