Police in Bradford seized 93 knives and weapons during a citywide crackdown on knife crime over the summer.

The Bradford City Neibourhood Policing Team (NPT) seized 93 weapons as part of a knife amnesty designed to make communities safer.

Officers carried out regular knife sweeps and deployed a knife arch in key areas across the city to identify and deter offenders.

Among the weapons seized were machetes, lock knives, and ninja swords, which are now illegal to possess even in private following recent changes to legislation.

The operation forms part of the district’s wider work to reduce knife-related violence, supported by the West Yorkshire Violence Reduction Partnership (VRP) and Operation Jemlock, the force-wide initiative tackling serious violent crime.

Police say the city is already seeing progress, as knife-related violence has fallen by 9.6% among victims under 25, and by 21.3% for victims under 18 in the past year.

Inspector Justin Adams, who leads the City Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We are committed to reducing knife crime across the city and we work with our partners to tackle this.

“Every weapon surrendered is one less that could be used to cause serious harm. This amnesty is about more than just removing knives; it’s about having conversation through education and building trust within our communities to make our streets safer.”
