A man who tried to run from the police after they discovered a cannabis farm in Rotherham has been jailed.

According to South Yorkshire Police, Xhevair Schem, 25, was caught at a property on Henley Grove Road on 16 July after officers responded to reports of a burglary.

When the police entered the house, a large cannabis farm was found inside.

While speaking to the officers, Sheme attempted to flee the scene but was chased down and detained after a short foot pursuit.

Once in custody, he was identified as being wanted in connection with another cannabis farm discovered three months earlier on Loxley New Road in Sheffield.

The earlier grow was discovered on 16 April when an electrical engineer was visiting the address and saw the illegal setup before reporting it to the police.

Sheme, who has no fixed address, refused to answer questions during police interviews, but later admitted to two counts of producing a Class B drug.

He appeared in court and was sentenced to 12 months in prison.
