A Sheffield man has been jailed for six years after raping and intentionally strangling an 18-year-old woman who courageously reported his crimes and testified against him in court, according to South Yorkshire Police.
Wilson Tut, 27, of Adlington Crescent, attacked his victim in Sheffield on 10 October 2024.
The victim reported the assault soon after, leading to Tut’s arrest three days later.
Detective Sergeant Kevin Sibley, who led the investigation, said: “I would like to commend the incredible bravery of the victim in this case for providing crucial evidence in court that helped to put her attacker behind bars.”
Despite denying the offences during questioning and pleading not guilty at Sheffield Crown Court, Tut was found guilty of rape and intentional strangulation on 13 August following a trial in which his victim gave powerful evidence about the incident.
On Wednesday, 22 October, Tut was sentenced to six years in prison and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register.
Detective Sibley added: “I am glad that he has been jailed for his crimes, and I hope that this result shows that others who have been victims of sexual offences will be believed when they come forward.”
The South Yorkshire Police is reminding the public that victims of rape and sexual offences are legally entitled to lifelong anonymity under the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act.
Anyone affected by sexual violence can report confidentially to the police.
