The sentencing for the murder of 15-year-old Harvey Willgoose is taking place today, Wednesday 22 October. Here’s everything we know so far.
Mohammed Umar Khan, aged 15, has been named by judge Mrs Justice Ellenbogen as the boy who murdered Harvey Willgoose. Restrictions around Kahn’s anonymity were lifted earlier this afternoon after Justice Ellenbogen decided that it was in the public interest for the killer’s identity to be revealed.
Khan was a pupil at All Saints Catholic High School in Sheffield. He was in Year 9 alongside Willgoose.
During August’s trial jurors heard how Khan and Willgoose had an argument on the morning of 3 February which led to Khan fatally stabbing his schoolmate in the heart at lunchtime.
The jury found Khan guilty at a majority verdict of 11 to 1.
This afternoon’s sentancing has resumed, and you can get the latest updates from our reporters here.
