Police have issued a clear warning to drivers in South Yorkshire which states car cruises will not be tolerated.
This follows reports of cars congregating and racing at the weekend on Fairacre Way in North Anston.
Just before 9pm on Saturday 4 October, South Yorkshire Police received calls to reports of cars racing in a ‘dangerous’ way.
Roads Policing Inspector Matt Collings said: “Dangerous and anti-social driving that poses a risk to road users and blights our communities will not be tolerated.”
Roads policing officers attended the area and carried out checks of vehicles which resulted in one driver having their vehicle seized, and four drivers issued warnings.
Less than 15 minutes later, 999 calls were being received after the group had again congregated on Dearne Valley Parkway.
Police attended the scene to process the drivers, and one officer checked all vehicles with a speed gun, which resulted in two drivers caught speeding, two more were given Traffic Offence Reports and another two were given warnings.
Inspector Collings said: “We will continue to reiterate that we will act. We will respond and carry out a range of tactics to ensure those involved face points, fines or losing their vehicles.
“We understand that groups in our communities have a passion for vehicle a showcasing them, and we continue to express our invitation for organisers of car meets to work alongside us.”
The statement emphasised that unorganised car meets can lead to collisions and life changing injuries, and urge the public to report any problems in their area to SYP.
