Young people in north Sheffield are set to enjoy a brand-new playground after major funding was secured for Firth Park, Sheffield.

The funding will be used to build a new playground designed for older children, as well as upgrades to the existing facilities to ensure that children of all ages have access to high-quality, safe and inclusive spaces to play.

Councillor Kurtis Crossthwaite, Chair of the Communities, Parks and Leisure Committee, said:” These new facilities will provide a real boost to the people of Firth Park.”

“We’re really looking forward to seeing the new playground take shape over the coming months.”

The new playground will include a large central new climbing structure, a viper rope swing, a 2-metre wheelchair-accessible trampoline, a spinning disc, table tennis tables, hanging bars and swings, set within a landscaped and fenced area with trees, seating and meadow grass.

According to Sheffield City Council, the £175,000 project was made possible thanks to a £100,000 grant from the FCC Communities Foundation and £750,000 from Veolia Environmental Trust, with additional support from the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) and Public Health Sheffield.

Richard Smith, Senior Grant Manager at FCC Communities Foundation, said the organisation was proud to support the project.

He said: “We’re delighted to be supporting the playground improvement works at Firth Park and are pleased our funding will provide such a fantastic facility for young people across Sheffield. “
