Major transformation work around the Pounds Park area of Sheffield city centre has led to a trio of nominations at the prestigious City Nation Place Global Awards.
The redevelopment around Pounds Park is up for Best Placemaking Initiative, while the city’s new brand, Sheffield Inspires, created with Manasian&Co, is shortlisted for the top honour: Place Brand of the Year.
The brand’s launch is also in the running for Best Use of Design, featuring inputs from Sheffield creatives Rob Lee, 96 Back, and Andy Robinson.
Reacting to the news, Councillor Tom Hunt, Leader of Sheffield City Council, said: “Sheffield is a global, green and growing city. We inspire places, organisations and people all over the world and it is fantastic to be shortlisted for three global awards.
“Our city is transforming and nowhere is this more evident than at Pounds Park. The new park in the heart of the city has become a much-loved place in the city and it is attracting attention from around the world. There is so much more still to come as we continue to regenerate our city.”
Sheffield’s ‘Heart of The City II’ project- started in February 2020- has received over £470 million in investment. A number of different restaurants, parks, shops, offices and food halls have all been either built or refurbished thanks to the scheme.
