National Adoption Week: Council seeks adopters to provide loving homes
20 October 2025

Families who can offer a ‘perfectly imperfect’ home are being sought by East Riding of Yorkshire Council and One Adoption North and Humber as part of a campaign for National Adoption Week.

From today till Sunday, the council will be highlighting the ‘Welcome Home’ campaign to challenge misconceptions around who is able to adopt.

One Adoption and East Riding Council hope to emphasise that children ‘don’t need perfection’, all they need is a home full of love and support.

As long as applicants are over the age of 21, and ready to provide a ‘nurturing space’, they are encouraged to look into adoption.

Councillor Victoria Aitken, cabinet member for children, families and education said: ”In East Riding we currently have 18 children who need adopting by people who can offer, love, care and stability.

”I’d encourage people to find out more and consider if they could provide a child with a welcome home.”

One Adoption is hosting a question and answer online session on Thursday 23 October, from 12pm to 1pm for those seeking more information about adoption.

Registration for the live session can be found here.
