Nissan owners urged to be vigilant due to rise in keyless thefts
18 October 2025

Following a spate of Nissan thefts across the county, South Yorkshire Police are urging Nissan owners to remain vigilant and take precaution to increase their vehicle’s safety.

There have been 30 reports of Nissan Nivara and Juke cars stolen across South Yorkshire since the beginning of August.

Keyless thefts occur when offenders use electronic devices to mimic the signal from a car’s key fob, allowing them to unlock and start the vehicle without physical access to the key.

The method used by criminals is fast and discreet, meaning it is difficult to detect before it’s too late.

South Yorkshire Police recommend the following security measures:

  • Use a signal-blocking pouch (Faraday bag) to store your key fob when not in use
  • Park in well-lit, secure areas or consider using a steering wheel lock as a visible deterrent
  • Install tracking devices to help locate your vehicle if stolen
  • Check for suspicious behaviour near your vehicle, especially individuals loitering with electronic equipment
  • Review home CCTV or doorbell footage for unusual activity

If you witness any suspicious activity, contact the police on 101.
