Update: Roads remain closed following Sheffield pipe burst
15 October 2025

Cumberland street remains closed in Sheffield following a burst pipe yesterday evening.

Households in the S2, S3, S6, S7. S8, S10 and S11 postcode areas were affected by no or low water pressure.

Today, at 12:06pm, a section of the road between Eyre street and The Moor is cordoned off as workmen carry out construction works.

A Yorkshire Water spokesperson said: “Yesterday we experienced a burst main on Cumberland Street in Sheffield city centre, which resulted in temporary loss of supply for some postcodes.

“Our team was able to restore supplies to all properties in the late evening, however, the repair itself is still ongoing.”

Despite water no longer bursting from the ground, a large hole remains in the street whilst workmen try to fix the issue.

Yorkshire Water have confirmed that homes in the area have now been restored with water, however it is currently unknown how long road closures will be in place for.

Keep following 360 wire for further updates.

1:00pm update:

Yorkshire Water have sent 360 wire the following statement:

A spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, the initial burst also resulted in a number of smaller additional bursts as a result of pressure fluctuations in the system.

“All customers have water supply, but some may experience low pressure whilst we complete all of the repairs. Customers will see us working in the area throughout the day and we’ll try to keep disruption to a minimum.”

They will be meeting with Highways after the initial repair is complete to assess the damage, after that they will have a clearer idea of how long traffic management will be in place.
