Concerns raised over plans for 304 homes near Sheffield Primary School

Plans for more than 300 homes on green belt land in Sheffield have raised concerns about the impact on nearby schools and children.

Sheffield City Council’s draft local plan includes 304 homes on a field in Charnock, close to Charnock Hall Primary School.

Birley councillor Luke Goddard has raised concerns about the disruption building work could cause, with construction estimated by campaigners to take around eight years.

The site is also close to an NHS speech and language therapy centre and Hugi Nest, which supports children with special educational needs.

Local campaigners are worried about the loss of green space and whether nearby schools could cope with more families moving to the area.

However, the council says independent planning inspectors have considered the site and found it suitable for housing.

It also said any future planning application would need a plan to minimise disruption during construction.

The council’s latest Local Plan consultation closed on 28 October, with inspectors now expected yo consider the responses before publishing their final report.
