Doncaster motorcross track closes after concerns following complaints over landfill smell
26 October 2026

Residents and businesses in Finningley, near Doncaster, have raised concerns over unpleasant smells and dust they believe are coming from a nearby landfill site.

Doncaster Moto Parc has been forced to close after staff and riders reported experiencing headaches, nausea and dizziness, which they believe are linked to the smell.

Tetron Finningley LLP operates the landfill site, with its environmental permit having been amended in 2022 to allow the acceptance of hazardous asbestos waste.

The permit is issued by the Environment Agency, which has confirmed it is investigating the complaints, with an inspector having visited the motocross track. The agency said it would take appropriate action if it found evidence that environmental permit conditions had been breached.

Local residents have also complained about flies, dust and strong smells affecting their homes. Residents say the direction of the wind affects how strongly they experience the smell.

Local farmer Robert Farmer also raised concerns about dust from the landfill. Speaking to the BBC, he said: “When the bulldozer is working, there’s a lot of dust flying about.”

The landfill is located in a former quarry next to the runway at Doncaster Sheffield Airport, which is currently in the process of reopening to aviation.
