A pet grooming salon owner is raising money for a Sheffield cancer charity after her own battle with the disease.

Laura Powell Walker is fundraising for Weston Park Cancer Charity through her business Pows Paws, a pet grooming salon, after her own battle with breast cancer.

Throughout October, £5 will be donated for every dog or cat groom booked during the month, at no extra cost to customers.

Weston Park Cancer Charity, based in Sheffield, offers advice, therapies and support for those suffering with cancer and their loved ones.

Laura said: “Weston Park supported me through some of the hardest moments of my life and now I want to give a little something back to help other people going through their own cancer journeys.”

Customers can also show their support by purchasing pink bandanas for their pets for £2.50 each, while a special prize draw is running throughout October.

Five raffle tickets cost £1, and every pet booked in for a groom receives one free ticket. The winner will be announced during a live draw on the salon’s Facebook page on October 31.

Her partner Mark Powell said: “I just think its so important to let every body know what Weston Park does for people.”

“They help people going through cancer, they help the partners and they help the animals which is also important as they always know when something is not right.”

Fundraising will continue throughout the year through a donation tub at the salon.

The October campaign combines a love of animals with a personal commitment to supporting people affected by cancer across the region.

Mark said: “Our dogs and our cats helped us through some really tough times. So we hope that we can help the animals and anybody else.”
