A nationwide supermarket boycott is being organised by the campaign ‘We’re Not Buying It’ on Wednesday 28 October.
The ‘We’re Not Buying It’ campaign aims to protest against rising supermarket food prices and calls for the government to introduce price caps on essential food items.
The boycott will last 24 hours, with people being urged not to shop in physical supermarkets, place online orders or make purchases at supermarket-operated petrol stations. Instead, the campaign is asking shoppers to support independent businesses or get what they need by Tuesday 27 October.
The boycott has been organised to coincide with the government’s Autumn Budget on 28 October, with campaigners hoping that a large number of people taking part on the same day will put pressure on supermarkets and the government to introduce immediate price caps.
These major supermarkets include: Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Lidl, M&S, Waitrose, Asda and Aldi.
They emphasise that “the fight is with major supermarkets raking in billions at our expense, not with the local stores and farmers who are equally struggling to keep up pace with the major supermarkets.”
They are encouraging people to sign the pledge and spread the word through social media platforms.
