Sheffield councillors to consider £1m solar investment for over 200 council homes
19 October 2026

Sheffield City councillors are set to consider a £1 million solar investment for over 200 council homes today at 2 pm.

They are proposing a £1.67 million investment in solar panels and battery storage to benefit 212 council houses and bungalows.

Sheffield Climate Investment, a scheme funded by investments from residents, businesses and supporters, would provide £1 million, and £671,500 would come from the council’s Housing Revenue Account.

The installations would take place alongside planned roof replacements over three years, with the aim of making homes more energy efficient and reducing electricity bills.

Cllr Douglas Johnson, Chair of the Housing Policy Committee, said: “This is a practical investment by Sheffield residents that will bring essential improvements to our Council homes with clean energy technology that can benefit tenants.”

Councillors will consider the proposed investment at Sheffield Town Hall this afternoon.
