In celebration of Black History Month, Black Owned Sheffield brought 12 diverse stalls this Sunday, offering items from artwork, to fashion and beauty to Kelham Island’s Cutlery Works.

Starting at 12pm the event saw stalls offering items such as hair-care products, food seasonings and jewellery, alongside face painting for kids and a chance to try rug tufting.

The event also saw sets from local DJs and performers, including 90’s RnB covers from Anarla-la’vay and traditional Afro-Brazilian martial art from Capoeira Angola Sheffield.

An important part of the event, founders Asha and Rakaia say, is honouring the community by placing a focus on engaging on traders who otherwise, many not have physical store to promote their wares and services.

Conceived during the height of Black Lives Matter, and returning after a three-year-long break, Black Owned Sheffield was created to spotlight local black-owned businesses and connect with underrepresented communities.
