A second boy has been arrested in connection with the shooting of a 16 year old boy earlier this week.
The suspect, also aged 16, has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder and was arrested yesterday evening.
This follows the first arrest of a 15 year old boy on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder, both suspects remain in custody at this time.
Detective Chief Inspector Emma Knight, who is the Senior Investigating Officer for this case, said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have got in touch so far to provide vital information.
“There is no place for gun crime in South Yorkshire, and I am calling on the public to help us get justice for this boy and his family.
“I would urge anyone who believes they may have information that could help our investigation and has not yet got in touch, to please do so.”
On Monday 25 October, at 5:17pm, South Yorkshire Police were called to reports of a shooting on London Road, which left a boy ‘fighting for his life’ in hospital.
A SYP major crime team launched an investigation following the tragic incident, and are still eager to hear from anybody who may have information which could assist in their enquiries.
The victim remains in hospital today in a ‘critical condition’.
Chief Inspector Emma Knight added: “We are steadfastly determined to put an end to gun crime in South Yorkshire, but we can only do so with your help.”
