South Yorkshire Police launch week of action targeting knife crime
17 November 2025

South Yorkshire Police have joined a national week of action aimed at tackling knife crime, as forces across the country take part in Operation Sceptre.

Running from Monday 17 to Sunday 23 November, the campaign highlights the day-to-day work already carried out by officers to prevent and reduce knife-related harm across local communities.

During the week, officers will carry out intelligence-led operations, targeting habitual knife carriers, as well as open land searches and weapon sweeps.

Both high-visibility and plain-clothed patrols will focus on violence hotspots, with stop and searches and vehicle stops taking place if necessary.

Neighbourhood policing teams will also visit schools and youth groups to deliver education sessions on the dangers of knife crime.

Detective Superintendent David Cowley, the force’s lead for knife crime, said: “Throughout the year, our officers work hard to keep you – our local communities – safe from knife crime, so this week is business as usual for us.”

Members of the public are encouraged to dispose of knives safely and anonymously using amnesty bins located across Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield.

The police will be sharing updates throughout the week across their official channels, and anyone seeking help or resources is urged to search Knives Take Lives for support and guidance.
