A1(M) southbound closed following serious collision near Catterick

The southbound carriageway of the A1(M) near Catterick remains closed following a serious collision between a car and a lorry in the early hours of this morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 2:20am this morning, to the stretch of road between junctions 52 and 51.

North Yorkshire Police report that the car, which had been travelling behind the lorry, collided and ended up in the central reservation.

The man driving the car has now been taken to hospital with serious injuries, however the lorry driver is unharmed.

National Highways has put a diversion in place via the A0655, and the closure is expected to continue into the early afternoon as recovery work takes place.
