A 25-year-old man has been jailed for life with a minimum sentence of 26 years for the murder of father-of-two Chris Marriott, who had stopped to help a woman lying in the road after a wedding day brawl in Sheffield.
Chris Marriott was 46 when he was murdered by Hassan Jhangur driving a blue Seat Ibiza car as he deliberately ploughed into a group of people at College Close in the Burngreave area of Sheffield on 27 December 2023.
Mr Marriott, along with other members of the public, had stopped to help a woman who was laying in the road while he was out for a walk with his young family.

Jhangur, of Whiteways Road, Sheffield, hit four other people with his car, amongst those were his own mother and sister.
Moments later, he stepped out of the car and stabbed his brother-in-law, who had married his sister just hours earlier, in the back and head.
Police have described Mr Marriott as a ‘good Samaritan’ who had paid for his kindness with his life.
The jury at Sheffield Crown Court today heard how Hassan Jhangur’s father, Mohammed Jhangur, 57, tried to hide evidence by stashing a knife in the boot of his car.
Mohammed Jhangur was sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for two years.
During his sentencing remarks, Mr Justice Morris described Hassan Jhangur’s actions as a deliberate act of “hot-headed violence”, adding: “it is clear Chris was much loved and, what is more, a highly respected member of the wider local community.”
Mr Marriott’s family have said in a statement: “To all those who tried to help on 27 December 2023, both before the collision and afterwards, the world is a better place with people like you who go to help those in need, rather than look the other way.
“To the many people who got in touch with us to express their condolences and show us their love – in words, flowers, meals, gifts and financial help. Thank you for not being silent when it’s hard to know what to say.
“To our families and friends, who have loved and cared for us in so many different ways, life is sweeter with you in it – and we are so thankful for you all.”
