Five men in court over lorry robbery near Harrogate

Five men are set to appear in court today (Wednesday 5 November) after a failed attempt to rob a lorry from a business near Harrogate.

Police responded quickly following a call at 4.440am on Tuesday 4 November, which reported that two vehicles had been stolen from a commercial premises in the Harrogate area.

After locating the two vehicles, which were a lorry and a VW car, officers moved quickly and stopped both drivers without injury or damage.

The lorry was brought to a stop in the village of Addingham, but the suspect fled the scene. He was quickly tracked by Police Dog Rhun and arrested.  

At the same time, different officers intercepted the car as it travelled on the A59 towards Skipton, arresting three male passengers on suspicion of burglary and theft of a motor vehicle

A fifth suspect was arrested later that day after a tip off from a neighbour.

All five suspects who are from the Leeds area and aged between 30 and 47, have been charged with two counts of vehicle theft and one of burglary. The occupant and driver of the lorry was also charged with driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

They were all remanded in custody.
