A large-scale cannabis farm worth an estimated £1.2m has been discovered inside a disused building in Sheffield city centre.

South Yorkshire Police officers from the City Centre Neighbouring Policing Team forced entry into the premises on Eyre Street on Friday (24 October) after receiving reports of suspicious activity.

The police found a sophisticated setup inside, with nearly 1,300 cannabis plants spread across multiple rooms.

There were also “hidden rooms” behind false walls, accessed through holes drilled into the structure.

Officers also found evidence that people had been living inside the building to tend to the plants, and 1,298 plants were seized in total.

Sergeant Simon Pickering, who led the operation, said: “Putting a stop to this operation will have made a significant dent in this criminal activity and we’re now working hard to progress the investigation.”

No arrests were made at the scene, but police say forensic work is now underway to identify those involved.
