Man charged after police van set on fire in Leeds city centre

A man has been charged after a police van was set on fire in Leeds city centre on Saturday afternoon.

Hakam Ghaith, 29, of Sandhurst Terrace, Leeds, has been charged with arson following the incident and has been remanded in custody to appear before Leeds Magistrates’ Court today (Monday, 3 November).

According to West Yorkshire Police, the charges relate to an incident in which a police vehicle was deliberately set alight in the city centre.

According to reports, a pro-Palestine demonstration was underway in the area when the police van was set on fire.
