York residents are being urged to take advantage of free advice and support that could save them thousands of pounds as part of this year’s York Talk Money Fortnight, running from 3 to 16 November.

This event runs from 3 to 16 November, and is organised by the City of York Council in partnership with Citizens Advice, Peasholme Charity, Age UK, York Energy Advice and Older Citizens Advocacy York (OCAY), hoping to provide help to people struggling with the cost of living.

Throughout the fortnight, people can access drop-in sessions and advice events across the city to find out what financial help they are entitled to, learn ways to reduce outgoings, and get guidance on managing money effectively.

Councillor Katie Lomas, Executive Member for Financial Inclusion, said: “The winter months can be a particularly challenging time for many of us with increased energy costs and the festive season adding extra financial pressures.”

A highlight of the events is a benefits advice session on Monday 3 November at St Sampsons Centre, and two energy and budgeting advice sessions on Friday 7 November at Tang Hall Community Centre and Foxwood Community Centre Hub, supported by national Energy Advice and Yorkshire Water.

Residents can also access advice online via Live Well York or the Benefits Calculator, visit their local community centre, pick up leaflets available at Explore Libraries, or call 01904 551556 for further information.
