Sheffield pub hosts fundraiser supporting Paws for a Cause

A Sheffield pub was the first to back the 360wire Paws for a Cause campaign as they held their first-ever fundraiser event.

The Raven Inn, on 29th October, held a pub quiz with a dog-themed round and raised over £40 towards our £1,000 goal.

Prizes included a themed bottle of wine and a jackpot of £100 to the winning team.

The campaign, which launched yesterday, aims to raise £1000 for 10 autistic children to meet their future support dog, call for 10 volunteers to register their interest in becoming a puppy foster parent for Support Dogs, and gather sponsorships for autism support dog Peggy.

System manager and quiz master Thomas Heath said, “We know it’s not mandatory to give us an extra pound but its for charity, it’s a local one too.”

The Raven Inn will be running their pub quiz every Wednesday evening for five weeks, and all proceeds from a raffle and merch sales will go to the charity. Entry for the quiz is priced at £2, with half of it going directly to Support Dogs.

“It brings everyone together. And again, it’s down the road. Its close. We’re looking to get people in the community to donate if they want to, and I think its good to bring it all together. And that way I’m proud to be from Sheffield, proud to be Yorkshire,” he added.

“They support nationwide, but they’re from Sheffield and that’s a great thing as someone from Sheffield and being a Sheffield pub,” said Heath.

Support Dogs dedicates themselves to changing the lives of adults and children nationwide, training disability, autism, and seizure alert dogs.

Katie Childs, an instructor at Support Dogs, said, “That moment when (the client’s) face lights up and they realise their dog’s gonna help them, it’s pretty incredible.”
