A 70-year-old man has been confirmed to have died in the helicopter crash earlier today.
The pilot, a 41-year-old man, and two other passengers, a 58-year-old woman and a 10-year-old boy have all sustained minor injuries.
The 70-year-old sustained major injuries in the crash, and despite the efforts of medical staff, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His family are aware and are being supported by officers.
A parallel investigation has been launched between the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) and South Yorkshire Police.
Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector Matt Bolger said: “Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the man who sadly died in this tragic accident.
“We and our emergency services colleagues remain at the scene and we have launched a full investigation surrounding the incident in parallel with the AAIB.
“As part of our investigation, we’d ask for anyone with information to get in touch. If you were in the area at the time and saw the events unfold, please contact us. We are particularly keen to to hear from those with footage of the helicopter leading up to the crash.”

A widescale emergency operation involving police, paramedics and fire crews is underway following the crash of the aircraft.
Believed to be a private flight, the helicopter crashed into a field just yards away from a factory belonging to Refood, a food waste recycling firm in Ings Road.
Emergency services first attended the scene around 10:14am, with eyewitnesses reporting there were at least 30 vehicles at the field.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “At 10:14am today (Thursday 30 October) we were called to Ings Lane, Bentley, where it is reported that a helicopter crashed into a field.
“Officers and emergency services colleagues are in attendance at the scene.
“Ings Lane is closed while we respond to the incident.
“Please avoid the area and plan an alternative route where possible.
“Further updates will be provided when they are available.”
