UPDATE:

The A1 southbound has reopened between J40 (Darrington) and J39 (Wrangbrook) following the completion of a food waste spillage.

One lane is currently closed on the A1 following a collision that resulted in a major food waste spillage.

Lane 2 remains closed on the A1 southbound between J40 (Darrington) and J39 (Wrangbrook).

National Highways Yorkshire announced that Specialist clean up crews are currently on route to the scene and are advising people to allow extra travel time.

They estimate there is approximately one mile of congestion on approach.
