A pub in Leeds has been named ‘Britain’s Best’ by the Good Food Guide 2025, despite being open for less than six months.
The Highland Laddie, which is located on Cavendish Street in Leeds, has taken the number one spot on the ‘100 Best Pubs in Britain’ list published by the Good Food Guide.
In 2022 The Highland Laddie, then known as The Highland, was forced to shut down after years of declining customer numbers and trade. The pub was taken over just six months ago by young couple Sam Pullan and Nicole Deighton, who also own the city’s Empire Café.
The new owners have spent the past few months transforming and revitalising the pub into the success it is today. Reacting to the news, Mr Pullan and Ms Deighton said: “It feels a bit surreal to be saying this just six months since we first opened, but we are absolutely over the moon.
“We want to say a huge, huge thanks to the teams here and at Empire Café for all the work they’ve put in to achieving this. Thanks to everyone who nominated us, and to everyone who comes down and makes The Laddie the proper local, community pub that we set out to create when it was just a twinkle in our eye this time last year.”
