Residents of Leeds and surrounding areas have been urged to protect themselves this winter by taking up the offer of free NHS vaccinations against flu and Covid-19.
People eligible for the flu vaccination include anyone aged 65 or older, people with a weakened immune system or long term health conditions and pregnant women.
People eligible for the covid vaccination include anyone aged 75 or older, people with a weakened immune system or long term health issues, and anyone in care homes for older adults.
Residents can check their eligibility for the vaccinations through their GP, local pharmacy, NHS app or the national booking service.
The council are appealing for people to get vaccinated as the latest UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) surveillance report shows Covid-19 cases and hospitalisations are steadily increasing, with both positivity rates and admissions rising over the past week.
They say, vaccinations also help ease demand on the NHS and social care services during the busy winter period, with infection rates expected to peak over Christmans and New Year.
Victoria Eaton, Leeds City Council’s director of public health said: “Getting vaccinated is one of the most effective ways to stay healthy and limit the spread of winter viruses.
“I strongly encourage everyone who is eligible to come forward and get vaccinated.
“By getting vaccinated, you’re not only protecting yourself, but also helping to keep your loved ones and our wider community safe.”
