20 October 2025

A rise in incidents caused by candles being left unattended has prompted a safety warning from Humberside Fire and Rescue.

They are reminding residents to take extra care when using candles at home, following a rise of incidents.

The service are issuing fresh guidance as part of their ‘Candle Fire Safety 2025’ campaign, urging people to use candles with caution or switch to LED versions.

It is reported that candles cause over 800 fires in UK homes every year.

They are reminding residents to keep candles away from soft furnishings, avoid placing them where they might get knocked over and to never go to sleep with one still burning.
