A 48-year-old man has been charged with the rape of a child following an investigation into a serious sexual offence reported in 2011.

Zana Adil Mohammed is due to appear before Leeds Magistrates’ Court today, charged with one count of child rape.

Mohammed, who self-defines as Asian, Arabic, was arrested on 16 October, Thursday, in connection with the alleged offence, which took place in the Birkby area of Huddersfield on 11 December 2011.

The case was recently reinvestigated by Kirkless safeguarding officers, leading to Mohammed’s arrest and subsequent charge.

West Yorkshire Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
