15 October 2025

A man has been jailed for 19 months following a series of burglaries and attempting to escape through a back garden.

Martin Shaw, 46, from Rotherham appeared at Sheffield Crown Court on 9 October when he received his sentence.

On 18 July, South Yorkshire Police received reports of break-ins at a business on Montgomery square, in Wath, and a garage on Snowberry Close, in Swinton.

CCTV footage identified an offender with the same appearance of the man at the scene of these incidents.

This man was identified as Martin Shaw and reported as ‘wanted’.

The police received another report on the 26 July that Shaw was seen at a property on Cliffefield Road, Swinton.

Officers quickly attended the property and arrested Shaw, despite his attempt to escape through a back garden.

He denied being the man in the CCTV footage when questioned, however Shaw pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary and a single charge of theft.
