West Yorkshire’s Mayor Tracy Brabin announced the funding boost ahead of a full council meeting on Thursday 16 October.
The £20 million boost in funding will go directly into the Brownfield Housing Fund, which aims to begin construction on over 6000 homes in West Yorkshire by 2029.
Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire, said: “Everyone deserves a safe and secure roof over their head, and this extra funding is a strong vote of confidence in our housebuilding success.
“By regenerating brownfield land first, we’re building the right homes in the right places – affordable, cheaper-to-heat and better-connected – all while protecting our vital green spaces.”

The Brownfield Housing Fund is now worth £110 million, with the Mayoral Combined Authority having full control over all of the money.
Private sectors, other local authorities and housing associations will all be consulted ahead of construction plans being finalised.
West Yorkshire has managed to take control of it’s housebuilding in recent years following large-scale devolution- the shift of power from Westminster to local authorities.
Mayor Brabin added: “Devolution is working for West Yorkshire, empowering us to deliver record numbers of affordable homes, to give people the security that can only start with a decent home.”
