A woman has suffered serious injuries after a major collision occurred between Sheffield and Chesterfield this morning.

Emergency services were called to A61 Unstone-Dronfield Bypass after a car and pedestrian collided at 5.20am.

The woman, in her 40s, has been confirmed as a pedestrian on the dual carriageway.

She has been taken to hospital and her family have been made aware.

The road remains closed and is expected to for some time.

Delays have been reported due to the closure and police are asking the public to avoid the area.

Police have confirmed that a woman has died after being hit by a car on A61 Unstone-Dronfield Bypass this morning.

She died shortly before 1pm, police say.

Her family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
