Two nurses from Sheffield Teaching Hospitals have been awarded one of the highest honours in the nursing profession.
The two women received the Queen’s Nurse title by the Queen’s Nursing Institute (QNI) directly.
The title is a professional recognition that celebrates nurses who show outstanding commitment to learning and leadership in community healthcare.
Elaine Green, Clinical Services Manager, and Gabrielle Coe, District Nurse Team Leader, were among 510 nurses recognised this year across the UK.
Elaine said: “I am extremely proud and honoured to be awarded the prestigious title of Queen’s Nurse. My ambition as a Queen’s Nurse is to continue to grow as a leader and be a role model for others by being present,
“Visible and to creatively collaborate to find innovative ways to strive to maintain high standards of patient care, effective and efficient service delivery.”
Elaine Green has been in the profession for over 27 years, and for the past 16 years, she has dedicated her career to community nursing, including hospice care.
She currently leads three city-wide services. These include; Ambulatory Wound Care and Lymphoedema Service, Community Continence Service, and the Intensive Home Nursing Service.
Gabrielle Coe is responsible for leading, supervising and supporting a team of community nurses to deliver safe, effective and compassionate care to patients in their own homes.
She said: “Becoming a Queen’s Nurse is an honour. It reflects my passion for community nursing and my dedication to improving services for patients, families, and carers.
Both nurses will receive their official badge and certificate at the QNI’s awards ceremony on 28 November in Central London.
Professor Chris Morley, Chief Nurse at the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, commented on the news, he said: “I’m delighted to see Elaine and Gabrielle honoured with this recognition.
“Queen’s Nurses embody excellence and leadership in community nursing, and this title highlights their outstanding dedication to delivering exceptional patient care. We’re incredibly proud to have them as valued members of our team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.”
